Upson Downs Photography website launched!

Upson Downs Photography

I’m very pleased to announce the launch of Upson Downs Photography, a project of my father’s to sell prints of his beautiful photography online. It’s fairly basic at the moment, no pricing or good descriptions of the photos are online yet, but new features will be added as we go.

In the meantime, please explore the galleries, drop in a word of encouragement or product enquiry via the contact page, and support a local photographer.

On a technical note, this is my first use of CakePHP in a production website!

Great work Ben, I really like it! Its sort of a coincidence that I got my new Canon A650 camera today, I guess.

I have just a few suggestions that you might be interested in.

    - I would add next and previous links to the individual image pages, I think it would encourage people to look at more photos.
    - This is just me but I would probably make the header image a bit bigger height-wise.
    - I would also make the thumbnails a bit better quality, but if you want to cater to dialup users that will be alright.

Can’t think of anything else at the moment, but tell me what you think of the suggestions.

Jylan, I’ve added next and previous links to each photo page and upped the quality of the thumbnail script (it was hangover in a script in my library from 2003-ish), which won’t affect existing photos. Thanks for your comments :-D There’s a few other features I want to add but as always the day job gets in the way.

That looks great now Ben. I was just wondering, does Wordpress 2.0.4 have an option to email you the latest comments?

Well here’s the thing. I thought it did and I checked it out and it didn’t, but I knew http://www.briterwebdesign.com/blog/ has the option, so I upgraded to WP 2.5.1, and although it’s got a cooler admin, it doesn’t have that option either. I think it’s a plugin, and there’s a fair number of them around. What do you use on Jylanization?
